Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive

In order to protect natural resources, the environment and public health, the European Union has drawn up the WEEE Directive. This EU directive applies to discarded electrical and electronic equipment.

In the Netherlands, the EU directive has been implemented by means of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management Regulations (Regeling beheer Elektrische en elektronische Apparatuur - REA). According to these regulations, producers and importers are responsible for taking back and processing the appliances. They must arrange for the appliances to be taken back and processed, and under certain circumstances, they must finance this as well. This increases the re-use and recycling of products and materials, and limits the pressure on the environment. Jacomij Electronics Recycling recycles and destroys all electronics in accordance with the WEEE Directive guidelines.
